They don't know each other. They're just normal people who are involved in the game throughout every week as parents, coaches, and players. The focal point was their unanimous sentiment. Three coincidental data points in two months sparked the question. Believe me, I repeated the "ever-improvement" argument and encouraged them all to simply try watching again and decide.

Re: Up-to-snuff assessment

Who in the "Colorado soccer community" aired these statements? Despite the intensity and constant effort of Kosuke Kimura and Omar Cummings, the Rapids' tempo was almost off. It was clear at the half that San Jose coach made some key adjustments to create scoring opportunities in the second half for Ryan Johnson, who wasn't a factor in the first half. San Jose's Jason Hernandez and Chris Leitch came right out and showed the Rapids forwards that they would have to earn any scoring opportunity, and they weren't going to lay down and give the Rapids any room to move. You could tell with 10 minutes left in the match that the Rapids were playing not to lose rather than win. Pablo Mastroeni's first game back from suspension might have been the only reason the Rapids earned the point. San Jose is mathematically out of the playoffs and played great until a penalty with minutes left in the match that set up Conor Casey's penalty kick. Casey had been all but mugged at gunpoint the entire match.

Re: Déjà vu draw

More from Matt Urland:
After the game, San Jose keeper Joe Cannon seemed to be pleased with the effort of a team that is close to becoming something great. Of course Joe also made mention of the fact that the Rapids had more success when he was here. In the Rapids locker room, Cummings said "the key to the next match is to come out intense in the first 25 minutes, unlike tonight." Maybe in Kansas City, the Rapids will play to win, instead of playing not to lose.

Re: Déjà vu draw

Ugh. This may be the undoing of the Rapids. The Earthquakes are at the bottom of the league, only a few points above shambolic NYRB. IMHO - 4 points lost in the last two games for the Rapids. They could have ascended to 42 points and moved from 6th to 3rd place in the playoff race.

Gary Smith targeted 40 points. I'm not sure the Rapids will get there with away games at Kansas City, Dallas and rival Salt Lake. The final home match against a New England. Granted - all 4 of these teams are below the Rapids in the standings. RSL and New England have a legitimate shot of getting into playoff position. FC Dallas and KC are not mathematically out of it but realistically they are spoilers like San Jose.

It's going to be an interesting final few weeks of the season.

Re: Cummings, Pickens ensure victory for Colorado

More apologies...
